Hurricanes can be destructive and deadly on the ground, but also beautiful from the air.

Astronauts from the International Space Station (ISS) have captured footage of three such storms from above.

The time-lapse video was taken on August 30th.

It shows Hurricanes Lester and Madeline in the Pacific Ocean, and Hurricane Gaston in the Atlantic Ocean.

NOAA's Central Pacific Hurricane Centre (CPHC) says Madeline is moving toward the west near 9mph, and this motion is expected to become west south-westerly late today through early Thursday.

NASA says the centre of Madeline will "pass dangerously close" to Hawaii on Wednesday and Wednesday night.

It says the estimated minimum central pressure is 950 millibars, and maximum sustained winds are near 130mph, with higher gusts.

To the east of Madeline, Hurricane Lester is also moving through the eastern Pacific.

After peaking as a Category 4 hurricane on Monday, Lester has weakened to a Category 3.

The US National Hurricane Centre says a warning is in place for the Big Island of Hawaii.

And there are also tropical storm and hurricane watch warnings for areas of the Florida coast.
