It’s been nearly 13 years since Rickey Gervais retired David Brent, the cringe-worthy office manager able to wring social embarrassment out of every onscreen interaction, with the BBC’s groundbreaking sitcom The Office coming to a very satisfying conclusion with the pair of Christmas specials. But now the first trailer has arrived for the big screen standalone adventure, David Brent: Life on the Road, showing very little has changed for the would-be rock star.
In a familiar setting, though apparently not the Wernham Hogg office of the original series, Brent returns to his familiar stomping ground, annoying everyone around him with his banter, still wearing that ill-fitting suit and goatee.
The feature-length one off sees Brent struggling with his aspirations for musical stardom and life on the road as a rep. With Gervais having written the script by himself, without long-time collaborator Stephen Merchant, the award-winner comedy star also directs the film. David Brent: Life on the Road hits cinemas on August 19th.
His The Office co-stars Martin Freeman and Lucy Davis will next be seen in Captain America: Civil War and Wonder Woman respectively.
