A new Japanese weather satellite, Himawari-8, has captured these rare images of twin typhoons making their way across the Pacific Ocean.
The phenomenon is rather rare, and it is the first time since 1997 that two typhoons have been recorded at the same time in the region. The Japanese satellite, which is orbiting about 22,000 miles above the Pacific, snaps high-resolution images every 10 minutes and the resulting pictures form for a very impressive timelapse of the path of the twin storms.
The typhoons are called Goni (on the left) and Atsani (on the right), and while Goni may affect Japan, Taiwan or the Philippines in the next week, it is not expected that Atsani will hit any country.
