Finishing school is a rite of passage that most of us take for granted, but when you’re finally doing it aged 103, the world takes notice.
Marie Hunt has just graduated from her local high school in Spring Green, Wisconsin, 87 years after she was originally supposed to don the gown and toss her mortarboard. Now, aged 103, she received an honorary diploma from River Valley High, while living in a retirement home.
Ms Hunt was left with no option but to drop out of school in 1928, when she could no longer commute to her school. Instead, she left the 8th grade behind her and stayed at home to help raise her eight brothers and sisters. Finishing her high school diploma had long been on her list of things to do, and when the chance to cross something off the bucket version came along, she seized it.
She now says she’s waiting for an invitation to make it to the prom. Watch the report of Marie Hunt’s graduation below:
