Volkswagen really has been getting good news in the last couple of days. Yesterday the latest SIMI figures said that two of their cars, the Golf and the Passat, made it into the top five selling cars for January in Ireland, and last night they received the prestigious European Car of the Year award for their new Passat.
Volkswagen received the award on the eve of the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and it came head and shoulders above its nearest competition. The Passat received 340 points and 30 top marks from the jury of 58 journalists from around Europe. Second to the Passat was Citroen with their C4 Cactus (248 points) and third was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (221 points).
Prof. Martin Winterkorn, CEO of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, said, "In the new Passat we have again succeeded in developing a car that sets the standards for its class in terms of technology and quality. This honour is a tremendous confirmation for the work of our engineers, designers and the entire team. The new Passat shows that the Volkswagen brand has the right answers to the challenges of our time."
We’ve test driven the Passat in the last two weeks and our own review will be available soon.
