Virgin Media and eir have reached an agreement to carry each other's sports channels on their respective TV platforms.

Currently, Virgin Media Sport and eir sport are not available on the competing companies' TV contracts.

However, under the agreement Virgin Media Sport will be available to eir customers as part of the eir sport pack.

Meanwhile, eir sport will also be available to Virgin Media TV customers.

The new arrangement is set to come into effect in the coming weeks - ahead of the Rugby World Cup and new seasons of the Champions League and Europa League.

In a joint statement, the two companies said: "This is great news for Virgin Media and eir customers who will now be able to enjoy an even greater choice of Sports programming on our platforms."

Virgin Media Sport includes all UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Nations League matches.

eir sport's offerings, meanwhile, include all 48 Rugby World Cup matches live and all Pro14 matches.
