The PSNI are praising vigilant passers-by in Belfast city for averting a tragedy just before a bomb went off in the city last night.
They told police about the suspect bag it was in just as officers, acting on misleading information in a telephoned warning, were evacuating a hotel 150 metres away.
Detectives are now trawling through CCTV as they hunt for the suspect - a man in a black hooded top.
