We've already covered some of the most hypnotic time-lapses of cities that have been put together by patient filmmakers. But there's only so many times we can watch sped-up cars travelling down motorways and fast-forwarded people crossing the road. How about some time-lapses on a far grander scale?

David Peterson has you covered. He's just uploaded a new video entitled The World Outside My Window. He's painstakingly gathered together imagery from ISS Expeditions 29, 30 and 31, scored them to epic music and released them into the wild in ultra high definition. The results are breathtaking (even in a year that has seen a flood of amazing space photography), and features the Northern Lights, blinding sunlight and even a cameo appearance from a distant comet.

David explains, "The goal with this sequence was to bring a bit more attention to the station itself, including the humans aboard it, particularly Don Pettit (appearing in the final shot) who took many of the sequences in this montage."

The video is a 'sequel' to Peterson's equally impressive earlier video All Alone in the Night, which has attracted well over 6.3 million viewers since it was uploaded back in 2011. We can only imagine David's latest effort is destined for similar YouTube success.
