As part of the promotion for her new album ARTPOP, Lady Gaga held an artRAVE in New York this morning, mere hours after the US release of the album. As well as early performances of some of the new songs, Gaga held a special press conference to unveil her latest live stunt: a massive, loud and extravagant flying 'dress'.

Explaining the creation - repeatedly referred to as 'she' by the singer - Lady Gaga told the assembled media "it started out in a pub, and then in my hotel room, and now we're here. This is a very, very early prototype, so we want you to see her potential today and then imagine where she could go".

She goes on to state the idea "seemed like the kind of thing I could perform in on stage... but then we realised her potential for the world and everyone". Going by the demonstration she conducted - which saw her strapped into the 'dress', with remote operators hovering her above stage for several seconds - there's certainly some work to do until the device is capable of integration into a musical performance: especially since it sounds like hundreds of hairdryers about to explode simultaneously.

The Telegraph has posted this video of the wacky creation in action. It's safe to say you shouldn't expect to be flying into dinner parties anytime soon...
