If you though that strapping rockets to bikes was only for catching roadrunners, then this daredevil will prove you wrong.
Frenchman Francois Gissy, likely inspired by Wile E. himself, recently broke the world record for the fastest bike ride ever at the Castellet circuit near Toulon.
RT reports that the bike reached a top speed of 333km/h in 4.8 seconds, powered by three hydrogen peroxide rocket engines. The rockets are attached to a homemade frame, with special Michelin tyres and regular rubber brakes.
Gissy's run beat his previous record of 288km/h which was achieved last year in Interlaken ,Switzerland.
For comparison, a Ferrari F430 (top speed: 315km/h) lined up alongside Gissy, but was quickly left in the dust.
The daredevil is keenly aware of the dangers involved:
"Yes, there is a risk. That is why I am lying on the bike, to conduct a mass balance. The track also plays a very important role, it must be really smooth because if there is a bump, I could fly away."
