A court has ordered that a full medical and psychiatric assessment be carried out on a 27-year old man charged with the murder of a young Kilkenny woman.
26-year-old Mairead Moran was stabbed to death at her workplace - the Holland and Barret store at Market Cross Shopping Centre in Kilkenny on Thursday evening.
Shane Smyth, of McGuinness House, Evans Lane, Kilkenny was formally charged with the murder at a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court this afternoon.
He was remanded in custody and is due before Cloverhill District Court next Friday.
He was granted legal aid as the court heard he is on disability allowance.
Mairead Moran's funeral mass will be held at St Eoghan's Church in Kilmoganny on Monday at 2pm, with burial afterwards at Kilmoganny cemetery.
