Two British journalists - working for the website Vice News - have been arrested in Turkey.
Jake Hanrahan and Philip Pendlebury, along with a local 'fixer', were reportedly filming clashes between Kurdish militants and security forces on Thursday in the region of Diyarbakir when they were detained.
Vice News reports that a court leveled formal charges of terrorism against the pair today.
The Turkish authorities accuse them of 'working on behalf of a terrorist organisation' - a charge Vice News has described as 'baseless and alarmingly false'.
Kevin Sutcliffe, Vice's Head of News Programming in Europe, said, "Vice News condemns in the strongest possible terms the Turkish government's attempts to silence our reporters who have been providing vital coverage from the region.
"We continue to work with all relevant authorities to expedite the safe release of our three colleagues and friends," he added.
The arrest has been condemned by Amnesty International, with the charity's Turkey Researcher Andrew Gardner saying, “this is yet another example of the Turkish authorities suppressing the reporting of stories that are embarrassing to them. They should release the journalists immediately."
