A device found in undergrowth near Rathfarnham in south Dublin this morning was viable and had the potential to cause death or injury.

The Army Bomb Squad was called in to deal with the suspicious device, near a residential area, a shopping centre and a creche.

The scene are was cordoned off with nearby buildings evacuated.

The bomb squad arrived at around 10.30 and the scene was declared safe forty minutes later.
