Leo Varadkar has revealed that he is restricting his movements after learning that he was a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19.

The Tánaiste said he received a negative test result after being informed of the case yesterday.

However, in line with public health advice, he will be restricting his movements to home and outdoor exercise for the coming days.

He said there are no implications for anyone who has been in close contact with him.

“I am perfectly well and will be working from home,” he said.

He is the second Government minister to restrict his movements this week.

The Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has been working from home since attending a Eurogroup meeting in Germany on September 11th.

His French counterpart Bruno Le Maire was also at the meeting and has since tested positive for the virus.

Minister Donohoe was tested on his return to Ireland and again over the weekend with both tests coming back negative.

He will restrict his movements until this coming Friday.
