Three Dublin Garda stations that were controversially closed are now housing short term lodgers.

Stepaside, Dalkey and Kill O'The Grange were shut last year by the Justice Minister against a backdrop of fierce opposition.

Now it has emerged the state is paying Camelot Vacant Property Management at least €160 a month plus VAT to manage the buildings and house the lodgers.

Crime Reporter with the Irish Daily Mirror Cathal McMahon says the lodgers are paying very low rents of around €100 a month, and are on short-term leases.

"This has caused a bit of anger and upset, especially in Stepaside which was a very busy and very active station at the time of its closure" he said.
