Three men have been charged in the US in what prosecutors call a "breathtaking" hack of JP Morgan and other major financial companies that netted hundreds of millions of dollars.

They face 23 counts over crimes targeting 12 firms.

US attorney Preet Bharara says the enterprise dated from 2007, and the personal information belonging to more than 100 million people was accessed.
