The United Nations has put forward plans for a new national unity government in Libya.

The country currently has two rival governments, only one of which is recognised by the international community.

The new leadership will be headed up by headed by Prime Minister Fayez el-Sarraj.

Libya has faced years of violence, following the overthrow of its long-time leader Colonel Gaddafi in 2011.

The news comes after months of difficult talks between the north African country's two rival leaderships.
