Police in Britain plan to speak to the person who nominated a man who died after taking part in a neknomination drinking challenge, an inquest has heard.

Isaac Richardson (20) collapsed after downing a cocktail consisting of a ''large amount'' of alcoholic drinks at the hostel where he worked in south-east London.

He reportedly drank a mixture of wine, whisky, vodka and lager before collapsing. People at the hostel tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital on February 9th.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and the results of toxicology tests are due in six weeks. He is believed to be the first person in the UK to die of the drinking game.

The social media craze involves participants filming themselves downing a drink, nominating someone to continue the game, and posting the video on Facebook.

At the hearing, coroner's officer Steven Moss said Mr. Richardson was involved in a "social network challenge called Neck and Nominate".

Detective Sergeant Roy Black told the inquest he did not "envisage" criminal charges in the case.

"The person who set the challenge has been identified and will be spoken to as soon as possible" he added. He was told that the person who nominated Mr. Richardson for the drinking challenge was not in the UK at the time.

Mr. Richardson's family did not attend the hearing, but an inquest for a review will be held on May 19th.

Neknomination is thought to have originated in Australia, but has spread quickly through social media.

Last week the family of Jonny Byrne (19), a Carlow teenager who died during a neknomination challenge, urged people to steer clear of the online craze.

Mr. Byrne was thought to be the second victim of the craze in here after Ross Cummins (22) died in Dublin city centre.
