Protests have escalated as the UK’s General Election comes down to its final two days of campaigning.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has condemned nationalist demonstrators who caused scuffles at a Labour Party campaign event involving comedian Eddie Izzard in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister David Cameron was himself targeted by protesters in Bath.

Izzard was appearing alongside Labour's Scottish leader Jim Murphy in Glasgow - in a bid to drum up support ahead of Thursday's ballot.

Labour is expected to lose well over half of its seats in Scotland to the SNP, which may damage its attempts to form the next British government.

SNP leader and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says the incident was disrespectful:

Eddie Izzard and Labour have released a video in response to the incident:

Meanwhile, in England Labour’s Ed Miliband and Prime Minister David Cameron were continuing their respective campaigns.

Mr Cameron himself was targeted by anti-austerity demonstrators in the city of Bath, and an had an egg thrown at him from a crowd.

The escalating protests come amid growing uncertainty about the election’s result, with many analysts predicting weeks of political stalemate even after polling day on Thursday.

That instability won’t be welcomed by Britain’s trading partners - including Ireland.
