A 15-year-old girl, who was a member of a marching band and performed at President Obama's recent inauguration, has been shot dead in Chicago.

Hadiya Pendleton died in hospital after being wounded in the back.

She was one of a dozen teenagers taking shelter during heavy rain when a man jumped over a fence and started shooting.

Police don't think she was the intended target. No arrests have been made.

Second shooting in the US

A hunt's continuing in the U.S. state of Arizona for a gunman who shot 3 people - killing one and leaving the other two critically injured.

He opened fire in an office building in Phoenix.

The shooting happened as former US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords appeared before politicians to testify in favour of stricter gun controls.
