Two brothers are facing extradition to Northern Ireland over a double murder 6 years ago.

Martin Smith from Kevlin Glen, Omagh and Niall Smith from Mourneview, Mowhan in Armagh appeared in the High Court following their arrests this morning.

The two are wanted for arson and the murders of 33-year-old Thomas O'Hare and 21-year-old Lisa McClatchey in November 6th 2006.

The couple died when a gang of up to 6 men broke into their home in Keady Co. Armagh assaulted them, doused them with petrol and set them alight.

Arrested under European warrant

Before 7am this morning gardai acting on European Arrest Warrants detained 40-year-old Martin Smith at Saltown, Dundalk and his 37-year-old brother Niall at Balbriggan in Dublin.

The High Court heard Martin Smith has numerous burns and scars and that he shook his head when asked if he knew why he was being arrested.

His brother's reply to caution was 'I don't want to say something about that to gardai until I speak to my solicitor'.

The two men were dressed mostly in black and remained silent at the hearing and did not apply for bail.

They have been remanded in custody until Thursday next week.
