Gardaí are continuing to quiz two men arrested in connection with an assault and a house fire in Rhode in county Offaly in September.

The 17-year-old and a 27-year-old were detained in Westmeath and Offaly this morning.

A 24-year-old suffered extensive burn injuries following the fire at Cloncur, Rhode on the 7th of September last - he was also found to have suffered a number of stab wounds.

The two men are being held at Tullamore and Mullingar garda stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí had issued an appeal for information.
