Two people have died following separate road crashes. A man has been killed after a three-car collision in Co. Monaghan.
The accident occurred on the N2 around four kilometres north of Castleblayney at around 12pm.
The remains of the 36-year-old man have been removed from the scene and the road is closed in both directions.
In a separate incident in Limerick, gardai are carrying out a technical examination after a man in his 60s died following a two car collision at Carrickerry in Athea at approximately 7:10am this morning.
The 63-year-old man was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at scene.
Meanwhile the driver and sole occupant of the second car - a 33-year-old man - was taken to hospital with non-serious injuries. Gardai are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident contact them.
Meanwhile gardai are reminding motorists to drive with caution as a result of wet conditions. Met Eireann is predicting 25 milimetres of rain to fall over the next 24 hours.
A quarter of all fatalities that took place this year happened on a Friday and the hours between 2 and 6pm in the afternoon is peak time for accidents.
