Two serving gardaí have been remanded on continuing bail at Limerick District Court charged with assaulting two brothers on a street in Limerick last December.

Both gardaí, who were based in Dublin, had been attending a Christmas party in Limerick city on December 5th, 2013 when the alleged offences occurred.

Garda David Naughton with an address in Lucan and Garda Wesley Kenny of Sandyford in Dublin 18 are each charged with assaulting Luke Morrison and his brother James Morrison at Catherine Street in the city.

They are both contesting the charges.

If convicted they could face up to six months in prison, a fine of up to €1,900 or both.

Darragh McCarthy, solicitor for the two accused, asked the court for a date to be set to hear the case.

"I have to inform the court that it will take in excess of a day as there is extensive CCTV footage involved," the solicitor said.

Judge Eugene O'Kelly adjourned the matter to September 24th for mention to fix a date to hear the case.
