Two men - aged in their late teens and late twenties - have been arrested on suspicion of murder over a hit-and-run in Limerick.

Kevin Sheehy, who was 20, died after he was hit by a jeep in the city centre this morning.

Gardaí say the two men were arrested this evening and are being held at a Midlands Garda station.

Mr Sheehy, a champion boxer, was hit by a SUV on the Hyde Road at 4.40am and pronounced dead at the scene.

A black Mitsubishi was found on the north side of the city that gardaí believe was involved.

They had been carrying out house-to-house inquiries, and had appealed for the driver of the SUV to come forward.

Gardaí have asked for anyone with information to contact them at Roxboro Road Garda Station, the Garda confidential line or any Garda Station.
