Two men have been arrested after a man was assaulted during a burglary at his home in County Tipperary this morning.

Gardaí said burglars entered a house in Irishtown, Clonmel at around 5:30am this morning and stole a number of items before the owner, a man in his 30s, woke up.

He chased one of them down the road where he was assaulted. He was taken to Tipperary General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators carried out a patrol of the area shortly afterwards and arrested a man in his 30s.

Gardaí said they then found a man in his 30s “who was trying to dump some of the stolen property into a nearby river.”

Both men are being held at Clonmel Garda Station and gardaí are examining three separate crime scenes in the town.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any of the incidents to contact them.

They are particularly interested in talking to any drivers who were in the area between 5:30am and 6:15am and may have camera footage to contact them.
