The former chairman of Anglo Irish Bank has appeared in court charged with facilitating unlawful loans to buy Anglo shares.

Sean Fitzpatrick of Whitshed Road, Greystones was arrested at Dublin airport early this morning.

The 64 year old was arrested by arrangement at Dublin airport at 5.37 this morning having stepped off a flight from Atlanta.

He was charged just after 8am with 16 offences under company law.

It’s alleged that in 2008 he provided unlawful financial assistance to members of the Quinn family and the so called Maple Ten of Irish investors to enable them to buy shares in Anglo.

Sean Fitzpatrick has been granted bail on condition he stays at his address, signs on weekly at Irishtown Garda Station and gives gardai 48 hours notice if he plans to leave the jurisdiction.

He’s to appear in court again on October 8th.
