Turkey finally enters fight against ISIS following suicide bomb attack

After a year of US-led attacks on ISIS in Syria and Iraq, Turkey finally entered the fray, sending 3 F-16 fighter jets across the Turkish border town of Killis on Friday.

The action was triggered by the deaths of 32 people in the southern Turkish city of Suruc when a suicide bomber targeted a group of Kurdish and Turkish activists.

The Turkish government has blamed ISIS for the attack.

The US government has spent the last year pushing for Turkey to assist in the coalition fight against the so-called Islamic State.

It has now agreed to do so in exchange for the creation of military buffer zone on the Syrian side of its border to protect Turkish territory.

Shona Murray spoke to Middle East correspondent Borzou Daragahi about the significance of Turkey's volte-face:
