Today

Wet and very windy countrywide this morning. Strong to gale force southerly winds will peak during the early morning with damaging gusts in exposed coastal areas and a risk of coastal flooding during high tide. Widespread and persistent rain with heavy falls in southwestern and western areas. 

However, from mid-morning onwards drier conditions will develop in western counties with scattered showers and some bright or sunny spells. This clearance will extend to all areas during the afternoon and winds will veer westerly and moderate.

Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

There are three Status Yellow weather warnings in place until this afternoon and one status orange warning.

Status Orange: Gale Warning

South to southwesterly gale to severe gale today with occasional storm force this morning on all coasts of Ireland and the Irish Sea.

Status Yellow: Wind Warning

South to southwest winds of 60 to 65km/h, with gusts of 100 to 110km/h are expected tonight and for a time tomorrow. Winds could reach higher speeds at times in some exposed Atlantic coastal areas.

The warning will remain in place until 2pm today.

Status Yellow: Rainfall Warning for West Munster, Connacht and Donegal

Heavy rain expected overnight and Tuesday morning with falls of 30 to 40mm expected in West Munster, Connacht and Donegal, possibly larger values on high ground

The warning will remain in place until 12pm today.

Status Yellow: Weather Advisory for Wexford, Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford

A combination of strong onshore winds, high tides and heavy rain brings the enhanced risk of coastal flooding overnight, Monday night, and on Tuesday morning to exposed coastal areas.

The warning will remain in place until 3pm today.

Tonight

Tonight will be cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain before more persistent rain will push across the country overnight with some heavy falls in Munster, Connacht and Ulster.

A clearance will follow from the west around dawn.

Southwesterly winds will increase becoming strong to gale force in places, veering northwesterly with the clearance.

Rather mild through the night with temperatures not falling lower than 11 or 12 degrees in most areas, but it will turn cooler when the rain clears with lows of 4 to 6 degrees in the northwest.
