The Minister for Transport has called industrial relations at the CIE companies old-fashioned and difficult.

In the wake of the publication of an independent report on a dispute over working conditions at the company this week, Leo Varadkar says industrial relations there are 'reminiscent of what you would have seen 30 or 40 years ago'.

The Dublin Bus Independent Investigation Report, written by experts from ICTU and IBEC, found no further intervention from a Third Party could resolve conflict between drivers and management over cost-saving measures.

Drivers at the semi-state company have refused to accept cost-cutting and embarked on strike action during the summer.

Minister Varadkar says there 'really is nowhere else to go' and that he hopes drivers will accept changes they will be balloted on over the next few weeks.
