Tourism Ireland is hoping to capitalise on the referendum result with a new wedding ad targeting gay couples.

It has released a video showcasing 'romantic locations to tie the knot'.

The campaign is being rolled out in nine markets - including Britain, the United States, Canada, the Nordic region, Australia, France, Spain, Italy and Germany.

It includes advertising on Facebook directing people to a specially-created section on Tourism Ireland's website, highlighting great wedding venues.

The video also features The Outing - the world's first-ever LGBT matchmaking festival, an offshoot of the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival, which takes place in October.

New research shows the annual spend on travel by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people exceeded US$200bn (€182bn) for the first time in 2014.

While LGBT people in Europe have a total spend on travel of US$66.1bn (€60.2bn).

The CEO of Tourism Ireland, Niall Gibbons, says we now hope to get a share of it.
