1. Traveller rights group Pavee Point is calling for a judge to resign over what it describes as ‘prehistoric’ comments made in a case with a Traveller defendant.

Athlone District Court Judge Seamus Hughes is reported as saying some people from the defendant’s ethnic background are like ‘Neanderthal men abiding by the ‘laws of the jungle’.

Judge Hughes is no stranger to controversy, after he remarked in a previous case that ‘social welfare is handed out like snuff at a wake’.

Pavee Point says he should resign with immediate effect.

The centre’s director Ronnie Fay says Travellers may feel that  they won’t get a fair trial in cases presided over by Judge Seamus Hughes:

2.The coalition puts on a united front, to taking the tough decisions in December’s budget.

Tánaiste and Labour leader Eamon Gilmore’s told their parties they won’t flinch when putting together the cuts and taxes.

While Taoiseach Enda Kenny’s ruled out a Cabinet reshuffle saying economic recovery is far more important.

3. Gardaí investigating the deaths of two men in Kinsale, in Co. Cork have made a further arrest.

Gardaí are awaiting toxicology results to determine what caused the deaths of Michael Coleman and Liam Coffey, though it’s suspected it could be drugs related.

Both men were found dead in Michael’s rented house in Abbey Lane in Kinsale on Sunday morning.

This afternoon a man in his late 20′s was arrested in connection with this investigation and was taken to Bandon Garda Station for questioning.

He’s the 4th person to be arrested in connection with this incident.

Two men and a woman who were arrested earlier in the week,  have all been released without charge.

The bodies were discovered in a village in the northern part of the island.

The area’s endured three decades of turmoil as some are opposed to French rule.

5.The US President Barack Obama’s observed a moment of silence on the White House lawn in memory of the 9/11 terror attacks.

It’s the 11th anniversary of the suicide hijackings that struck New York and the Pentagon, and downed a plane in Pennsylvania, leaving nearly 3,000 dead.
