Vassiliki Tanou, Greece's top Supreme Court judge, has been appointed interim Prime Minister of Greece before elections in September, the BBC reports.

Ms Tanou was appointed after attempts to form a coalition government failed, with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos naming her to the position in the wake of the resignation of former Prime Minister, Syriza leader Alex Tsipras.

The 65-year-old will hold the position until elections which are expected to take place on either September 20th or 27th.
