There’s been another fatal shooting in the capital.

It’s understood a man was shot shortly before 3 o’clock on Cherry Orchard avenue in Ballyfermot.

It believed the victim – who was shot a number of times – was a significant crime figure in the capital.

The Finance Minister says he’s hopeful of a substantial deal on Ireland’s banking debt before budget day.

Michael Noonan says he hasn’t scaled back his hopes of an agreement despite concerns over a statement issued by German, Dutch and Finnish finance ministers earlier this week.

They said that EU money should not be used to pay for so called “legacy assets” – including older bank debt.

But Micheal Noonan still believes there’ll be a deal for Ireland before the budget in December.

A 30 year old Dublin man has appeared before the Special Criminal Court charged with IRA membership and possession of a firearm on yesterday’s date.

Declan Geraghty of Bawnlea Crescent, Tallaght was arrested after meeting with gardai in Ashbourne, Co Meath earlier this afternoon.

It follows a search of a house in Tallaght on Wednesday in which component parts of a pistol were found.

He’s been remanded in custody until next Thursday.

A Limerick man has appeared before the High Court on a European Arrest Warrant from the UK – where he’s wanted for allegedly stealing a rhino horn.

26-year-old Michael Kealy of Abbeylands, Rathkeale is accused of robbing the valuable object from an antiques dealer in Newark on June 11th last year.

Our Courts Correspondent Francesca Comyn reports:

Crunch talks are continuing at the Labour Relations Commission this evening – in an effort to avert strike action at Dublin, Shannon and Cork airports.

SIPTU representatives are meeting with management of both the Dublin Airport Authority and Aer Lingus – in a row over pensions.

For now, the trade union has deferred rolling work stoppages planned for Monday.

But it’s warning that the threat of industrial action at the country’s main airports hasn’t gone away.
