Tony was one of the most recognisable voices in Irish radio.

He worked in the radio industry for more than 25 years, starting out in pirate radio before moving to 2fm and then joining Today FM in 2004.

He spoke frankly about his initial diagnosis with prostate cancer three years ago.

Last year, Tony was inducted into the PPI Radio Awards Hall of Fame. He said it was still a thrill to be on the radio.

Former colleague Dave Fanning spoke about his memories on the Pat Kenny Show here on Newstalk.

The station has posted this tribute on social media:

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
