The government hopes to raise up to 50 million euro in lost motor tax revenue every year by using toll cameras on Dublin's M50 to check for motor tax dodgers.
Department of Transport officials are thought to be working on plans to will cross check car registrations of more than 100,000 vehicles that pass through the M50 toll every day with their own tax records.
It's hoped that the system can be extended to other toll roads and speed-check cameras if it is a success.
