Tributes paid to 98fm presenter Johnny Lyons

Tributes poured in following the announcement of the death of legendary 98FM presenter Johnny Lyons.

Lyons was the station's sports editor, having worked there for over 20 years, and the news has led to an outpouring of tributes and warm memories of the legendary broadcaster.

Gardaí stop car in Roscommon, and find two men in the boot

Gardaí have found two men travelling in the boot of a car.

The vehicle was stopped in Roscommon town when gardaí noticed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

They saw five people inside the car - but a further inspection revealed two men in the boot.

"It's death by geography" - West Ireland's ambulance service

A Roscommon man whose seriously ill father waited three-and-a-half hours for an ambulance, despite living next door to the ambulance depot, has said Ireland’s rural ambulance service issues amount to: “death by geography”.

When the local GP in Boyle, Co Roscommon, attended James Woods’s father in the family home June 8, she diagnosed the elderly man with a pulmonary embolism. She contacted the emergency services and made the operator on the phone aware that James’s father had to be in a hospital within the hour. Three hours and 28 minutes later and James and his father were still waiting.

Nurses at Ireland's most overcrowded hospital are facing such severe levels of stress and emotional strain that many are unable to sleep and often leave work in tears, according to union officials.

Tony Fitzpatrick, Industrial relations Officer for the North East with the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, has told Newstalk that he has spoken to several staff members at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, Drogheda, who have discussed the emotional toll the work is taking on them, with many of the staff now undergoing resilience training to help them cope.

Corbett children to return to Ireland after judge's verdict

The children of Jason Corbett can now return home to Ireland following the ruling by Judge April Wood, who has dismissed the case of Molly Martens - the children's step mother - who was seeking custody of Jack and Sarah.

It will mean Jason's sister Tracey Lynch can care for the children here.

The Limerick man died in a domestic incident earlier this month and police say they're not looking for anyone outside the home in relation to his death.
