Irishman treats immigrant taxi driver to Dubai day out

An Indian man working as a taxi driver in the United Arab Emirates enjoyed an unexpected day out on Sunday when Irishman Liam Murphy paid for him to accompany him to a major theme park.

Murphy, who was in Dubai as part of his job with IT company EMC, posted on Facebook about the duo's day out.

He said driver Shakiha told him during their long drive to the Ferrari World park that he had never been into the park himself, despite working nearby for 14 years.

According to the Irish Mirror today, the young mother was left stranded after being thrown off Bus Eireann coach for talking.

Former Justice Minister Alan Shatter says the photos he claimed on expenses were purely for ministerial reasons - for a visa for a trip to Lebanon.

Deputy Shatter says they were needed for a visit to Irish troops in the Lebanon in 2013 - and the document were only used for that purpose.
