Judge says court is not entitled to restrain reporting of Dáil business
Denis O'Brien issues statement on judgement and calls on Deputy Murphy to stand over her Dáil statements
The High Court judge at the centre of the Denis O'Brien and Catherine Murphy story has said it is clear to him he is not entitled to restrain the fair reporting of Dáil utterances.
Mr Justice Donald Binchy said he never intended his order, stopping RTÉ reporting on the businessman's confidential banking arrangements with IBRC, to be construed in that light.
The Irish Times and RTÉ came to court today looking for clarity on the scope of an order, injuncting the media from reporting details of Mr O'Brien's banking affairs with IBRC.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter will resign just days after winning a fifth term in charge of football's world governing body.
An unscheduled press conference had been called by FIFA in Zurich this evening and that is where the announcement was made by the 79-year-old, who has been in charge since 1998.
It comes one week after the arrests of several FIFA officials in relation to bribery and corruption allegations.

The Dun Laoighre TD said he informed party leader Joan Burton of his decision earlier today.
“It has been an honour to represent the people of Dun Laoghaire for the past 30 years,” Mr Gilmore said.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors wants an independent investigation into the tragic death of Sergeant Michael Galvin.
The father of three, who was under investigation by GSOC, appears to have taken his own life at Ballyshannon garda station last week.
He had been interviewed by the Garda Ombudsman in the context of a fatal road traffic incident in Ballyshannon on New Year's Day.
GSOC say they are 'satisfied' with how they dealt with an investigation.
New date set for Sean FitzPatrick's trial, as the jury is discharged

The jury has been discharged in the trial of former Anglo Irish Bank chairman Sean FitzPatrick over the alleged failure to disclose millions of euros in loans to the bank's auditors.
The end of the trial at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court comes after seven weeks of legal argument in the absence of the jury.
Judge Mary-Ellen Ring told the jury of six women and five men today that the legal issues had been dealt with and as a result of these the time frame for the trial had changed significantly.
