Chances are the worst thing anyone will say about your holiday snaps is that they're boring or that you don't know how camera exposure works. Pop stars don't have it quite so easy, as Justin Timberlake recently found out.

Ahead of his concert in Tel Aviv, he visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem, uploading a picture to Instagram with the caption, "The Holy Land… What an experience. I will never forget this day. #Israel".

Like many sites in the region, the holy wall is located on contested territory - it sits in the eastern part of Jerusalem that Israel seized during the 1967 war.

Some commenters were keen to point this out and criticised Timberlake's choice of words, with some users berating him for using the term 'Israel'.

“FYI, it’s called #PALESTINE," wrote remihattab. "It was is and always will be Palestine :)," said laaanaaa33.

There was plenty of support from the other side too, with rscottherrell writing, "There is no Palestine. Sorry." and yanir chiming in with, "No other names or countries behind, just Israel!!! Long live Israel forever! #promisedland #israel"

Social media can be quite the hornet's nest, and I'm sure Timberlake's media team will be a tad more careful next time.
