A three-year-old girl has survived 11 days and nights alone in the Siberian wilderness after she got separated from her father.

Karina Chikitova was lost in the wilderness, which is infested with bears and wolves, and was kept warm for over a week by her puppy before he returned home to summon help.

"The girl aged three years and seven months survived by eating wild berries and drinking river water in territory roamed by wild bears and wolves," reported The Siberian Times.

Rescuers encountered numerous wild animals during their search for her, highlighting the extraordinary danger she managed to survive.

Amazingly, Karina only sustained minor injuries such as insect bites and scratch marks. She managed to survive the severe cold at night by making beds in the long grass, the same grass which made it impossible for helicopters and search parties to find her.

Karina's mother was away on a trip and the toddler was left in the company of her father. When Karina's father set out on a trip to a nearby village, he was unaware that his daughter had followed him into the taiga (forest) with her puppy and had lost her way.

Rescuers managed to find the brave girl with the help of her pet dog who returned home and guided the search party into the wilderness and to some of the tracks left by her bare feet.

Karina was reported as being conscious and looking well. After being fed and given some water she was taken to hospital with her mother by her side.
