Three men have been arrested after gardaí seized a firearm in Dublin city yesterday.

The semi-automatic pistol and ammunition were found during the search of a vehicle on Oscar Traynor Road, Dublin 5, last night at around 9.30pm.

The three men travelling in the vehicle, who are aged 23, 24 and 53, were arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

They are currently detained at Ballymun and Coolock garda stations.

The discovery was made by gardaí from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, assisted by gardaí in the Security and Intelligence division, during the course of operational activity.

Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, of the Special Crime Operations unit, said last night’s discovery of the firearm and subsequent arrests were made following the seizure of “a large quantity of drugs” on Tuesday and “a significant quantity of cash a number of days earlier”.

He said these seizures reflect “the Garda Síochána’s unrelenting efforts to effectively tackle organised crime”.

Gardaí say their investigations are ongoing.
