OIREACHTAS JUSTICE COMMITTEE

A member of the Oireachtas Justice committee says Brian Purcell should take the opportunity today to clarify all the issues surrounding the departure of Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.

The Secretary General at the Department of Justice will appear before the committee today but says he won't answer questions about the matters which fall under the remit of the Fennelly Inquiry.

Fianna Fáil's Justice spokesman Niall Collins told breakfast that 'doesn't wash' with him.

AER LINGUS STRIKE

The Transport Minister is calling on Aer Lingus cabin crew to call off their strike.

Members of the IMPACT trade union plan to hold a 24-hour work stoppage this Friday, in a dispute with management over rosters.

Speaking to breakfast, Leo Varadkar welcomed IMPACT's willingness to return to talks - but said the strike action should now been called off.

DUBLIN SHOOTING

A 21-year-old man has been shot in Dublin overnight.

The gun attack happened at Slieve Bloom Park in Drimnagh at around 10 past five this morning.

He was rushed to St James' Hospital and is being treated for injuries to his leg.

WEATHER

Mist and fog will clear early this morning and many places will be dry with good sunny spells.

Scattered heavy showers will develop this afternoon, mainly in parts of the west and southwest with the risk of isolated thunderstorms.

Cloud will thicken in eastern areas later with perhaps a little patchy rain developing in places this evening.

Warm by afternoon with highs of 16 to 20 degrees.
