Nathan Bowell, like any other regular teenager, just wanted to enjoy a night in and order a Domino's pizza, but instead found himself plunged into financial debt.

How did one meal empty out his bank account far beyond his means? Easy. The cashier who was supposed to charge the 19-year-old £17.99 (€22) for his meal accidentally charged him £179,932.32 (€226,000).

The mistake occurred after the cashier handed Bowell the card machine and allowed him to enter his security code of '3232' into the price of his purchase.

Bowell and the cashier failed to realise the mistake and the extra four digits turned a £17 meal into over a £170,000 overdraft, which is over €210,000.

The error was immediately flagged by Domino's merchant provider, however, Bowell's bank had already approved the purchase.

While the error has since been corrected, it took two days for Bowell's financials to be cleared and the overdraft reversed.
