Police in Australia have arrested a teenager they say was planning a terror attack.

Officers found explosives at the 17-year-old's home in a suburb of Melbourne.

Last month, a plot to attack a military memorial event in the city - supposedly inspired by Islamic State - was also stopped.

A baby girl remains in a stable condition in hospital this morning after being discovered abandoned in South county Dublin yesterday.

Gardaí are now anxious to reunite the mother with her baby and are appealing for her to come forward.

Gardaí are continuing to question a man after a number of shots were fired at a house in west Dublin yesterday.

At around 10 o'clock yesterday morning, three men approached the house on Oranmore Road in Ballyfermot and carried out the shooting.

A man in his mid 30s was arrested and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Gardaí are seeking the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts of a 23 year old man who is missing from his home in Dublin.

William Cassells was last seen leaving Mayfield Park in Clondalkin on Wednesday afternoon at around 3pm.

He is described as being 6 foot in height, of slim build with brown hair and blue eyes and when last seen was wearing a black coloured Nike Jacket, grey tracksuit bottoms and navy runners.

One of the countries worst affected by the recent ebola outbreak in west Africa has been declared free of it.

There hasn't been a case of the disease in Liberia for 42 days.

More than 4,500 people have died from the virus there.
