Irish abortion laws 'violating' women's human rights, says Amnesty

Amnesty International says the human rights of Irish women are being 'violated' by abortion laws which are taking a serious toll on their mental and physical health.

The international NGO has launched a major report this morning, calling for the Eighth Amendment to be amended or repealed.

It says Irish abortion legislation is among the most restrictive in the world, and forces more than 4,000 women and girls abroad every year.

Always Better Value? High Court finds Dunnes Stores misled customers with ad campaign

The High Court has found Dunnes Stores led a misleading in-store advertising campaign by using phrases like 'Always Better Value'.

The food store was brought to court by the discount supermarket giant Aldi.

Tomato ketchup, pork sausages, shower gel and toilet paper are all items you might buy in the weekly shop.

In store supermarket banners tell you there is a “Lower price guarantee” and as you go down the aisles you might see a label on the shelf with the words 'Aldi match' – a reference to the German discount store.

A review has found that there was not enough evidence to justify prosecuting the Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams for allegedly withholding evidence about his brother, Liam Adams.

It comes after his Liam Adams was convicted of raping and abusing his daughter in the 1970s.

Doherty makes new claims about Denis O'Brien's relationship with IBRC

The Dáil has heard new claims of IBRC's relationship with Denis O'Brien.

Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty has made the claims during a debate on the terms of reference for a Commission of Investigation, saying it's not wide-ranging enough.

He's used Dáil privilege to claim that IBRC's liquidators rejected three attempts from Denis O'Brien to renegotiate his credit agreements before they expired in June 2013.

Man dies following violent incident in west Dublin

A man has died after he was stabbed during a brawl outside a guesthouse in west Dublin overnight.

The man (25) was one of a number of people injured after a fight broke out on the Kennelsfort Road in Palmerstown at around 3:45 this morning.

Another man was also taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown following the incident.
