"I apologise for my mistakes" - Bertie Ahern addresses the Banking Inquiry

Former Taoisech Bertie Ahern has said he is sorry for the mistakes he made as Taoiseach.

During opening remarks to the Banking Inquiry, Mr Ahern said: "I know that during my time as Taoiseach, while I did not get everything right, I can honestly put my hand on my heart and say I did try my very best to do the right thing by the Irish people."

Four marines dead in shooting in Chattanooga; gunman killed

Four Marines and a gunman have been killed in an "incomprehensible" attack on two military facilities in southern Tennessee.

Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke told a news conference: "We had someone viciously attack at two different locations people who proudly serve our country."

Homeless families are being forced to sleep in Dublin Airport because they have nowhere else to go.

Leading homeless campaigner, Father Peter McVerry, says the crisis is the worst he has ever seen it and he is warning that families will soon be living on the streets for the first time since the famine.

Greece to get €7bn bridging loan

Greece looks set to get a €7bn bridging loan to keep the country afloat until a bailout is approved.

Eurozone ministers agreed the loan from an EU-wide fund, enabling Greece to pay back arrears to the European Central Bank (ECB).
