Last night, the Rubberbandits were given an award marking their contribution to debate in Ireland as they were presented with the Auditors Medal.

The award was given to them by the University of Limerick's Debating Union, and the list of previous winners of the award include a former Taoiseach in Garrett FitzGerald, as well as Justice of the Irish Supreme Court Susan Denham, so the appearance of the comedy music duo on that list seems a bit odd.

However, speaking at the ceremony, Blindboy Boatclub said "The reason we have got this award is because politics and discourse has got to such a state that people who are supposed to be making sense no longer make sense and the man with the bag on his head is the only person making sense".

Billy Sutton, a member of the UL Debating Union committee who made the decision to present the pair with the award said "at an initial glance it might seem like we have chosen a different recipient but the Rubberbandits have developed a very new age way of discussing current issues in a clever and unique way, that is still simulating discourse".
