President Barack Obama released this year’s White House Christmas card, featuring a photo of the first family.
Typically, the White House Christmas card is usually a simple photo of the White House.
Obama is seen in the image standing next to first lady Michelle Obama, with now grown up daughters Malia and Sasha on either side of them.
The photo was taken in March at a state dinner honoring Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — the first time Obama’s daughters attended a state dinner, People Magazine reported.
Bill Clinton was the first modern president to use a family photo on a White House Christmas card in 1993. You have to go back to Franklin D. Roosevelt — another Democrat — to find another family portrait in use.
“As our family reflects on our many happy years spent in the White House, we are grateful for the friends we’ve made, the joy we’ve shared, and the gifts of kindness we’ve received,” the card reads.
“We wish you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season and a wonderful new year.”
