North remains on brink following unionist walkout

Northern Ireland's power-sharing executive remains on the brink this morning following a mass unionist walkout.

First Minister Peter Robinson has stepped down and most of his Democratic Unionist ministers have quit over a crisis sparked by a murder linked to the IRA.

Arlene Foster will today begin as the sole unionist in Northern Ireland's power-sharing government after the mass resignation of her fellow party members.

Man in critical condition following serious Dublin assault

A man in his 20s is in a critical condition in hospital after a serious assault in Dublin yesterday evening.

The incident happened at Cow's Lane in the Templebar area of the city at about 8.45pm.

The man suffered serious head injuries and was taken to St. James's hospital where he remains in a critical condition this morning.

Some 22,500 refugees and migrants arriving on the Greek island of Lesbos have been registered by officials since Monday evening according to police.

Lesbos is one of several Greek islands in the Aegean Sea that have been struggling with a huge influx of people setting sail from Turkey, many of them Syrian refugees.

A forensics team says DNA found on the garden hoe used in the killing of two British backpackers in Thailand does not match that of the two defendants.

The bodies of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were found on a beach on the holiday island of Koh Tao last September.

Services to be held across US for 9/11 anniversary

Today marks the 14th anniversary of 9/11.

Almost 3,000 people died when two planes were crashed into New York's World Trade Centre and the Pentagon in 2001.
